What would anyones suggestions be to a potential newcomer to the Dorset twinshock world?. ;D. A good friend who is a long time, accomplished road bike rider (also KLX300) would like to have a go after seeing the smooth and friendly running of last months meeting. Who can blame him!. With this in mind and keen to encourage, off we went to a practice track Saturday. Sadly the combination of yz465/hardpack/marbles & jumpfest nutters on modern 4ts may possibly have had the opposite affect! I had originally suggested just applying for a D group entry at the next Dorset doo and taking it from there, which I think would give him a safer, more predictably surface to cut his teeth on. Naturally he is nervous to take the plunge, but I'm sure he'd be fine and happy to cruise 'round 'till he found his feet. I hope to be able to arrange a farm field trip for a more sedate go meantime, but would appreciate any thoughts on having a go at D group Milbourne St Andrew. Sorting out a suitable bike to start on is another story..... Thanks.

Well his priority would be to buy the Chairman of Dorset Classic a beer or three ;D
I think one of the many reasons that Dorset classic is being sucessfull currently is our grading of riders on ability (and not getting too hung up on their machinery) and in paticular the D group. This gives riders who don't want to be particularly compeditive, just returning to the sport after a lay off, or just starting off road riding or just out for a ride a chance to ride the tracks with like mind people in relative safety.
I would sugest that asking to be a track marshall at an event might be a way forward if he didnt feel quite ready to join the start line just yet.

Thanks for the input Whizzy, I'll tell him to fill his entry out on a stamped addressed beer crate. Reckon he'd be happy to go for D group if the club's ok with that. As an alternative to a yz465, if anyone has a mild mannered 250 or similar they would be prepared to loan for St Andrew on the usual basis, plus beer, please let me know. Thanks

Thanks for the reply Barney. We're going to give another practice track a try and see how it goes. Very kind offer, I'll put those options to him and be in touch. What is the power like on the KTM? I think he's looking for dimmer switch rather than light switch

if you have somewhere to try it out, ride it and see.Because it has an outer Flywheel,The engine tends to be smooth rather than having to be kept in the power band .If you wish ,i could drop you a contact number at the latter part of the week.for an informal chat about Bikes, and starting out.We that ride, have all been there. We are also at a stage in life, where it is nice to be able to offer advice and assistance. As Whizzy pointed out,Dorset Classic Lends itself well toward a friendly, nostalgic, family ethic, with a little bit of rivalry thrown in..Best of luck at the next track...
