Hi, i currently ride a crf 450x and do a bit of green laning etc. Any way my mate has bought a pre 65, and is urging me to get a pre 74. My problem is not knowing what i should be looking for, and also i have noticed more modernish crossers in the pics. Could some one please tell me how the groups work, as in what year cc bikes you can run as i dont have a clue, cheers Neil.

Well in our club we currently run classes as follows; Pre '65 obviously bikes manufactured before 1965(ish) we having been running a up to 350cc group and an over 350cc group.
Much the same for the Pre '74 (ish) only up to 250cc and over 250cc
We don't get enough entries to grade riders on ability in the above groups.
Then we have the the Twinshock section, which is by far the most popular group at our meetings. This section is graded on rider ability and we have been have four groups lately. Twinshock definition- Two rear shock absorbers, drum brakes and a air cooled motor. Usually up to the early '80s. There are a few exceptions to these rules, there are some early Monoshocks that were around at the end of the seventies- Yamahas for an example. We also allow home made specials that encompass the spirit of Twinshock racing.
Other Clubs made have a slightly different take the various definition of the classes. We don't run championships and have a emphasis on having fun.
Where abouts are you based?
