490 Maico Barrell

Hello all,
Im desperate to find a maico 490 barrell, i was really looking for a reed valve one but a piston port one will do fine if a reed valve one doesnt turn up.
It can be second hand or if you have one sat in the back of your garage, a new one, right money waiting but i cant justify paying a grand for a brand new one.
I really want to start building my bike for this year after last years disasterous attempt, if no barrell is found then im tempted of dropping in with fabrication another gutsy engine so replies please.

Hi Guy , I buy in from the US lots of twinshock & maico parts so will keep you in mind , however what i would say is your looking for the "holly grail" of all maico parts especially a reed-valve barrel , I would call Roger at Racebase and get on his mailing list plus try BillBrown and then if you've deep pockets MaicoOnly ..... not sure what bike you have but it maybe easier to buy a complete running 490 and sell what you have ... just a thought ..... are you interested in a 440 as a mate is rebuilding one as we speak and it will be for sale !

On the engine swop , my mate had a Rotax engined Maico , its not an easy fix and never worth what an original bike is worth and would cost as much as looking for that barrel !
