Hi, how about putting on four scrambles for 2013 instead of three? There is a big shortage of events in our area, the Dorset events are nearly always full due to excellent venues and organisation. Plenty of us to muck in and help out, what do you think?

Speaking as someone who has a bit of inside knowledge about how we run things (but not much!), I think four would be a bit much.
Seeing behind the scenes is very much an eye opener for someone like me who's always just turn up and ridden at enduros and such. Each scramble seems to have work going on for weeks and weeks in advance, and I'd not be surprised if alot of the people involved give up a good deal of their holidays each year to put the three current events on.
As you said, the events are always really good, and personally I'd be a bit cautious in trying to put on more and risk diluting the quality.
That said, anyone who wants to help is always very welcome and perhaps its something to talk about at the next social/meeting.

Yes I agree, organising an event is like an iceberg, you only see 1/3 of what's going on 2/3 rds is behind the scenes. I know this as my dad was the originator of the AMCA in Dorset in 1979. Just thought I'd throw the suggestion out there, as heard a few people would like more of a good thing.

We've had requests to run more more meetings and two day meetings etc almost since day one. This is of course very gratifying. We have fair number of riders who only ride our meetings. It's never been our intention to take over the (scrambling) world and we feel that there are a number of other clubs in the area that need our support and not our competition.
We do really well with help with getting the tracks put up and taken down. The issue with running a number of events is that the same few people have in the main completed all of the necessary pre event organisation for the seven years and twenty scrambles that we have put on so far. From my own point of view the first scramble of the year - beginning of June to the second event the end of July, all roll into one long event with no real spare time at all. Having been injured for a lot of the time this club has been in existence I've not missed not being able to ride until the last year when I've been relatively ( ;D ) fit and I just can't seem to find time to ride, which is very frustrating.
I can't speak for the others who help maintain the high standards that this club has set it self but I need to reduce the amount of time that the club needs from me. To see the club maintain its position and move forward we need some more help with the behind the scenes work. My trouble is I love every aspect of involvement, everything we have achieved and the people I've come in contact with.
As you might have guessed this diatribe is not a direct response to the original post in this tread but something I have been considering for some months. I would hope to continue to be a part of the Dorset Classic Scramble Club for some time to come, of course that will be down to the will of the AGM next month.

Good to hear your heart felt reply, beleive me I understand the effort and time it takes to put on one meeting let alone three or four! I remember my parents being close to divorce many a time. All I can say is you guys have put on exceptionally good events and with 110 plus members we should be able to support you better and if 3 quality events be our quota then so be it, as I said just thought i' d throw it out there

There was some Talk on Mx Trax of a Winter series kicking off at Plush,With 11 Meetings in Total..This appears to have faded away..There is more Room for Clubs to be formed in other Areas .ie Wiltshire,Hampshire,Somerset. This would create a Perfect Area To cover for more meetings..But as with all Ideas..It Takes passion.Drive.Desire and a whole heap of goodwill involved ,to keep the wheels Rolling..We are Lucky to have such a fantastic Chairman,Secretary,Treasurer,Ladies etc..They Know their Stuff, and are Darned good at it..I would Hate to see one of the wheels fall off through to much workload..If there where more Clubs formed, maybe DCSC could Reduce to Two .. Lessen the Load..For Me,I am not the Brains of Britain..But i do what i can.. Maybe the answer is for more Clubs to be formed
