At least your drum brakes were consistently crap, try a modern KTM and see the brake characteristics change between corners! Ohh you youngsters you dont know you were born , ;D ;D ;D ;D, Sounds like crap pad material ,,,,,,a bit of heat makes some of the pads glaze ,,,,,you need to pop them out every now & again have a look , if there shiny rough them up a bit on a concrete block ,,,,,if there still crap try a different type ,,,,,,,,& what ever you do , dont spray them with any of those aerosol type brake cleaners , ,,,,,,, Sounds like we had it easy in the good old days ,,,,,,,,you knew they wernt going to work so you didn't rely on them,,,,,,, Laugh a minute motorbikes ,,,,,,,,great fun though ,,,,,,

Even just washing the bike was a right pain with those old drum brakes, had to take 'em apart before they rusted up. Ahh whizzy ,,,,,every monday when i was a apprentice my work place only had a cold water pressure washer ,but it worked at the time ,,,,spent my lunch hour blasting the taco clean & then unblocking the drain to the soak away , ;D ;D, had to eat my lunch on the hoof , before & after (still do that now its stuck for 40years or so ,, ;D ;D oh well ,,,,, ;D great times ,,,,rich Ps had to get it home stick it on a milk crate , take the wheels out strip them & dry them ,,,, ;D the nippers have it easy now ,,,, ;D ;D

I used a beer crate ;D they were just a little taller, of course you had to buy them full to get the crate The KTM brakes thing is not the pads we've tried allsorts. There effectiveness comes go for no apparent reason, i recon it's a fluid problem. Not sure if it's getting into the system or not being bled out properly and moving. You can improve it by straping the lever back to the bar over night. It's only the front brake. I think i'll buy him a Bullworker, remember them?

Ah yes the fluid, there have been specific problems with that too, I remember mid enduro when the brake fluid seemed to have warmed to the point where it had expanded to lock the front wheel solid to the point where I couldn't yank it round at all! That made it quite interesting to ride across a grassy field..

To much fluid in the sealed resevoir will do that ,,,,,no where for the expansion to go so it puts the brake on ,,,,,,,,you never know might just be the cause of your brakes playing up to ,as the forks go up & down there is a slight pressure as the fluid line moves / bends ..........worth a look i think ,,,,,,,,

Touch wood its sorted at the moment, for the time being, god knows how or what I've done recently with it, but they seem to work, hydraulic clutch on the other hand, that must have drank a litre of that expensive mineral oil at the last scramble!

Looked in to Ivan's garage (no 111) over the weekend amongst the 6 or 7 projects taking shape theres a very nice trials Sprite circa 1968 almost ready ,,,,,,
